Researcher Council Now Accepting Applications and Nominations

We are now accepting applications and nominations for the New Digital Research Infrastructure Organization (NDRIO) Researcher Council. The Researcher Council will engage with, and articulate the needs of, the research community in Canada as it relates to the delivery of Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) services.

The Researcher Council is a critical component of NDRIO’s commitment to involve the research community as it designs a new service delivery model supporting Canada’s new DRI strategy. The Researcher Council will help assess the DRI landscape, summarize the research community’s DRI needs, provide strategic vision, and serve as ambassadors for NDRIO’s mandate.

We are seeking researchers to join the Researcher Council who are passionate about ensuring the DRI needs of the diverse researcher community are met, and to achieve this objective will make recommendations to NDRIO’s Board of Directors and management. This is a key opportunity for researchers from all career stages to make a valuable impact on the way the DRI ecosystem supports Canadian researchers.

All qualified candidates will be considered for the Researcher Council. Candidates can apply directly using the application form posted on NDRIO’s website or they may be nominated by NDRIO’s Primary Member institutions. Primary Members have the opportunity to nominate a range of potential candidates to help achieve NDRIO’s diversity objectives. We welcome candidates from all sources who share the Researcher Council’s vision and commitment to advancing Canada’s research infrastructure. We want to ensure that the diversity of researcher voices is represented to NDRIO to provide guidance on a number of areas, including the researcher-needs assessment and NDRIO’s first strategic plan.

The candidate selection process is committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) principles throughout the selection process. The Researcher Council will represent the diversity of the national research enterprise including: research discipline; institution; geographic and linguistic diversity; and diversity between established and emerging researchers. Researcher Council members will have experience in Advanced Research Computing (ARC), Research Software (RS) and/or Data Management (DM) domains. Applicants will be reviewed and evaluated by the Researcher Advisory Group with final decisions made by NDRIO’s Board of Directors.

Researcher Council candidates will serve staggered terms of up to three years. We expect the Researcher Council to meet on a monthly basis, with a significant time commitment at the outset given NDRIO is a start-up organization.

We are currently looking to fill 15-20 of these voluntary, prestigious positions. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, August 23, 2020. This deadline may be extended, as appropriate.

For more information, please refer to the Researcher Council Position Profile, Frequently Asked Questions or NDRIO website.

Thank You For Your Participation

Finally, on behalf of the NDRIO interim Researcher Advisory Group, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Researcher Council governance model consultation sessions in early July.

We had 110 Members and stakeholders attend the sessions, and received more than 25 related email submissions. The feedback was immensely valuable, and work is underway to integrate the input into the next iteration of the Researcher Council governance model. The feedback on the recruitment of applicants to the Researcher Council was also very valuable and was used to finalize the process described above.

If you have questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Many thanks,

Guillaume Bourque
