Dr. Amol Verma is a physician and scientist in General Internal Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital. He is also the Temerty Professor of AI Research and Education in Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Verma is a health services researcher, studying and improving hospital care using electronic clinical data. He co-founded and co-leads GEMINI, Canada’s largest hospital clinical data research network, which is collecting data from 30 plus hospitals in Ontario.
Dr. Verma completed medical training at the University of Toronto, a master’s degree at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and research fellowships through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian Frailty Network, and the AMS Healthcare AI and Compassion Fellowship. He served on the Council of Canadian Academies Expert Panel on Health Data Sharing and is a Provincial Clinical Lead for Quality Improvement in General Internal Medicine with Ontario Health. Dr. Verma received the 2022 Early Career Leadership Award from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the 2022 Early Career Trailblazer Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Population and Public Health, and the 2023 New Investigator Award from the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine.
